What is the Educator Resource Center?

NASA's comprehensive education program advances the Nation's education goals through expanding and enhancing the scientific and technological competence of all students and educators. Using its inspiring mission, unique facilities, and specialized workforce, NASA conducts and leverages a broad range of science, mathematics, and technology education programs.

To help disseminate materials to educators, NASA's Education Division has established the NASA Educator Resource Center Network. This network is comprised of Educator Resource Centers (ERC's) and the Central Operation of Resources for Educators (CORE). These facilities are the principal distribution points where educators may obtain NASA publications, video and computer materials, and participate in training workshops on the use of NASA educational products.

Through the NASA Educator Resource Center Network (ERCN), educators can enhance their existing curriculum with information generated by NASA programs, technologies, and discoveries. Although NASA educational materials relate primarily to mathematics, science, and technology, they can be valuable curriculum supplements for all subjects.

The Office of Education at Langley Research Center offers an extension of its Precollege Education program by supporting the Educator Resource Center (ERC) in partnership with the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton, Virginia (the official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center).

The NASA Langley ERC, located at the Virginia Air & Space Center, in conjunction with affiliated ERC's located within Langley's five-state service region, serves educators in:

  1. Kentucky - Murray State University
  2. North Carolina - UNC Charlotte
  3. South Carolina - SC State University
  4. Virginia - Radford University
  5. West Virginia - 2 sites:

What does the ERC offer?

The NASA Langley ERC provides educators the opportunity to receive free instructional information, materials, consultation, and training workshops on NASA educational products. Using a subject-grade level approach, educators can take back to the classroom educational products that align to national standards and which use NASA's cutting-edge research in science, engineering and technology as the content focus.

Educators may also view and use other print and multimedia materials on the premises:

The ERC offers product training and instructional technology workshops for educators, including:
