Join the search for life
on other planets with
Alien Earths - no longer at VASC.
So
far, man has discovered there are more than 150 planets
outside our solar system, but we’ve yet to find existence
of life beyond our planet. You can explore the universe
with the new traveling exhibit Alien Earths at
the Virginia Air & Space Center beginning October 23,
2009. Alien Earths is an interactive
exhibit that illustrates the search for life on other planets.
Through hands-on activities you can see how scientists use
instruments in space and on the ground, to learn more about
the formation of galaxies, stars, and planets, as well as
the conditions necessary for life.
Alien
Earths is comprised of several hands-on
and multimedia components that help to uncover the truths
that scientists face when looking for life on other
planets. Have you ever wondered how a solar system is
created? In Star and Planet Formation,
you get the chance to create your own solar system and
set it in motion. You can also explore the birth of
a star and its life cycle.
Planet
Quest explores how scientists search for planets
outside of our galaxy. Through hands on components you
will learn several methods that scientists use to search
for planets and the stars that they orbit. What we know
about life on Earth helps in the search for life beyond
our planet. Could there be a chemical signature that is
a sure source in finding new life? Search for
Life offers many interactive stations that explore
what scientists look and listen for and the odds of a
distant world harboring life.
