The
Virginia Air & Space Center Opportunity Program,
Inc. is supported by contributions from individuals,
businesses and foundations and provides free or reduced
admission to groups that show financial need. Through
the Opportunity Program, educational experiences were
provided to over 23,000 underprivileged students in
fiscal year 2008.
As a private, non-profit organization, it is a constant
challenge to provide free admission for underprivileged
students and provide the best educational services to
a growing audience at affordable prices. We need your
help to continue to offer quality educational services
while maintaining accessibility to everyone.
The Opportunity Program,
Inc. receives daily requests from underserved groups
to provide free exhibit tours,
IMAX films, science demonstrations and SOL-based educational
programs. These groups often lack exposure to life-enriching
opportunities, and rely upon the Opportunity Program
to support meaningful, hands-on educational experiences
that will engage, motivate and inspire them! We invite
you to partner with us to extend our reach to underserved
children in our community.
Your partnership will have a direct
impact on the quality of life in Hampton Roads. Dr.
George Brooks, founder
of the Center's opportunity fund, believes, “...if
only one of the 20,000 youths served by this program
is saved from a ten-year prison term, the community
would save about a half a million dollars.”
“Thanks to the Virginia Air & Space Center,
I had a great summer! We built robots and learned more
about the Liberty Bell 7. I want to be a NASA scientist
when I grow up.” ~ Steven McDonald, Age 11
“The field trips and after school programs the
Virginia Air & Space Center provides are an invaluable
source of enrichment for our students. The fact that
your programs are all SOL driven, hands–on and
inquiry based make teachers, students and parents all
appreciative of the services you provide. The Center’s
exhibits are spectacular and cannot be viewed anywhere
else in the world. The Virginia Air & Space Center
is a tremendous asset to the community.”
